HWY 395 Weekend Roadtrip

4-day trip right before the Californian fires started.

  • Lenght: 4 days
  • Money spent/person: $100
  • Gas: $50
  • Airbnb: $50

DAY 1: Mobius Arch Stone & Kearsarge Pass

We drove from San Francisco to Bakersfield, spent a night there and woke up early to get to our first stop called Mobius Arch Stone in the Alabama Hills. We always use Waze or Google Maps for our navigation but we always check the details in case we lose service.

Side story, WE means my lovely Indian friend and I. He randomly contacted me through TikTok about a swing in San Francisco by the Golden Gate Bridge that got taken down, and we met for a little hike to put up a new swing. At that time we talked about our ‘must visit’ places and he suggested visiting these things. So we started planning this trip together and this was the second time we met, and he became my best travel buddy! 🙂

Mobius Arch Stone: To get to this rock you only need to do a 1 mile loop. In the background you can see Mount Whitney, and the place is just breathtaking, like a whole another planet.

Here you can checkout a cinematic video I made of this trip!

Next we did a 13km/8mi long hike in Kearsage Pass to get to Flower Lake which I truly recommend, it was beautiful! Then we headed to Independence to our Airbnb for the night.

DAY 2: THE FAMOUS BIG PINE LAKES

This is the hike we have always dreamt about! YOU CANNOT MISS THIS!!!!

We decided to start the hike early so we see a sunrise. We woke up at 3am, started the hike at 4am, and we already got to the lakes way before everyone else was there. I really suggest you to do that! We decided to only visit the first 3 lakes which was a 20km hike out and back. We swam in the second lake then headed back and we got to our car by 4pm. Have lot of water, lunch, headlamp, and a swimsuit with you! We spent one more night in an Aribnb in Bishop, then drove back to San Francisco.

To sum up, this has been the best and my favorite weekend road trip in California, I really recommend you to search for things to see on HWY 395, 2 weeks wouldn’t be enough to check out all the places that it offers!
